Gary Wack, president of Superior Industrial Supply, a St. Louis, MO-based MRO distributor, believes in giving his customers what they want. "We still do fasteners, but over the years we've added cutting tools and abrasives, electrical wire and connectors, even some chemicals and paints, in addition to the hose and fittings," explains Wack. "We basically get into whatever our customers are into."

Knowing that stocking the right inventory is only half the battle, Wack invested in Activant Acclaim in 1997 to help handle the other half: delivering great customer service and streamlining operations. Now, almost a decade later, Superior Industrial's sales have grown steadily while overhead has been reduced by 15 percent.

"I have many customers who need their part numbers printed on their invoices, and we used to manually type those out every time," says Wack. "The customized item option automates that process, and I've also used it to pre-define some hose assemblies for customers who always order the same things - it's a big time-saver."

The employees at Superior Industrial also rely on the price and availability screen, which Wack calls "a live or die feature." Displaying customer and item information from specs to quantity breaks, the price and availability screen is the place to go when dealing with customer queries.

"There are so many features in Acclaim that I love, but the price and availability screen is by far the most important," concludes Wack. "We can answer almost any question a customer might ask in seconds, and that type of convenience and speed equals great service."
