Thompson Distribution Company Moves Forward with Activant Acclaim version 16

In 2001, John Thompson, president and owner of Thompson Distribution Company, spearheaded an acquisition that not only grew his business, but also left his company with a new enterprise software solution in Activant Acclaim. After evaluating the solution, Thompson found it to be a great fit for his burgeoning business.

A PVF and plumbing supplies wholesaler based in Indianapolis, Thompson Distribution had been distributing electrical supplies for some time before starting a new company in 2004 called First Electric Supply Company. Dan Pierson, IT manager for both companies, knows that conducting a large volume of business in two verticals requires a versatile solution.

"We rely heavily on our system," says Pierson. "With two distribution companies running the solution, we need a product to be reliable and robust. We found everything we need in Acclaim."

Before acquiring Acclaim, First Electric had used Excel spreadsheets to manage its inventory and finances. According to Pierson, accuracy was always an issue: "No one trusted the information in our manual system - it could have been keyed in wrong, or overwritten. Now with Acclaim," he says," whether it's lot billing, rebate tracking, or any kind of reporting - we know the information we're getting is accurate."

Making The Upgrade

Both companies recently loaded the beta version of Acclaim 16. Along with new features such as improved workflows, e-mail/fax logs, and unused account/transaction deletions, the ability to lock customer accounts has already impacted business at Thompson. "I began using the account lock right away," says Norma Thompson, office manager at the company. "It's a feature we'd been wanting for some time."

With Acclaim 16, Activant, proves its commitment to evolving the solution - a fact that makes Pierson feel secure: "Activant knows that our system is the lifeblood of what we do. It's the first thing to go on in the morning, and the last thing we turn off at night."
