YARDLEY, PA, October 18, 2006 - With the release of Activant Prophet 21™ version 11.0, distributors can now add Service and Maintenance functionality to their arsenal of value-added services.
"Service and maintenance functionality streamlines transactions of serviceable items and helps distributors track them, ensuring end-users get the service they deserve for the life of their purchase," said Steve McLaughlin, senior vice president and general manager of Activant Solutions Inc. "Because it fully integrates with Prophet 21, distributors can use one solution to run their business."
That integration makes for seamless transactions. Utilizing its existing accessory items functionality, Prophet 21 can automatically suggest the sale of a service contract to accompany an item. Once the sale is completed, the Service and Maintenance solution creates a service contract record that tracks expiration dates, contract detail, parts and labor covered, billing effects, etc.
In addition, Service and Maintenance functionality for Prophet 21 allows distributors to set up warranty information and preventative maintenance schedules at the item level. If the manufacturer offers a one-year warranty on an item, the distributor can create a warranty ID for that item so all related serial numbers have that warranty attached to them at the point of sale. And if the manufacturer recommends preventative maintenance on the item, Prophet 21 can automate the reminder process by sending e-mails to the customer at specific intervals to notify him of maintenance due.
Activant's Service and Maintenance solution also tracks the details of service contracts by serial number, and allows distributors to schedule specific tasks for their technicians, enabling distributors to provide an important value-added service for their customers.
